11 weeks appointment

So we had an appointment on Friday to hear the heartbeat and get the results from my blood tests. First things first, my appointment was at 4:15 and after waiting for 2 hours and a 45 minute appointment we got out of there at 7pm, talk about a long day.

Anyhow, Dr. Hank took us into a different room from usual where I realized there was no sonogram machine which meant no picture of the baby (boo!). There was however the doppler and he went to work. After having the first doppler batteries die mid scan for the heartbeat Dr. Hank got a new doppler and went back to work...No luck. After trying for a couple minutes we couldn't hear the babies heartbeat so the doc gave up and took us into the other room.

He then pulled out the belly sonogram scanner and attempted to look at the baby from there. We could see the baby but he couldn't focus well enough to see if the baby was moving. Next came the dildo cam, he went in with that and found the baby with its heart still beating strong. He literally looked at the baby for about 15 seconds, found the heartbeat, pointed out a foot and shut off the machine, no picture (boo!).

Basically at this point he says its too early to hear the heartbeat (thanks to my extra tummy layers) and we will hear it at my 15 week appointment. Otherwise all my bloodwork came back perfect and he went over a ton of paperwork, took our picture (apparently he has pictures of every couple he has ever treated, kind of a cool thought), gave us a bunch of info that the hospital makes him give us, told us to make a list of pediatricians we liked from our area (he's 35 minutes away) and bring it to him and he will help us pick one out, got all the info on labor, breastfeeding, etc. classes. Basically he just gave us a LOT of information to go over and think about. He also gave me the paperwork to set up my 20 week scan/sex determination appt with the outside clinic that does it. It was a very informative appointment.

At the very end he asked if I had any questions and I said yes. I wanted to know what products he would recommend for the massive amounts of acne that have attacked to face, neck and chest. His answer "You're having a boy!" He went on to say that most likely what's causing it is the testosterone that a little boy would be putting into my system. He says its a "cute" little side affect to which I pointed at my face and said "this is not cute!" Either way Steve's face lit up but I have convinced myself no to take that for much until I have proof of the babies sex!

On another note we told some of our best friends friday night that we are expecting. I play on a coed softball team on Friday nights and it just so happened we were short handed so I asked a bunch of my close friends to fill in. Steve asked me during the game if I wanted to tell them to which I replied "Only if we can get them to go out for "drinks" after the game". Thankfully they all came out and after being pressured for answers about our baby making tactics (in good fun pressure) I finally turned to my friend sitting next to me and so "Okay fine I am pregnant". This stopped them all in there tracks and after confirming that I wasn't just saying that to shut her up we got lots of congratulations. It was fun to share!!! Of course before we left I made them all swear not to post anything on my myspace since they were the first to find out and we wanted to wait a little longer to make it public knowledge.

So all in all, Friday was a good day!
